Amazon FBA Labels and FNSKUs: What Resellers Need to Know in 2026
If you send inventory to Amazon's warehouses, every unit has to be identifiable as yours. For most resellers, that now means printing and applying an Amazon FNSKU label.
Rules change. This page summarizes Amazon's barcode rules as reported in 2026. Always confirm in Seller Central before you prepare a shipment.
What an FNSKU is
Amazon's warehouses hold the same product from many sellers. The FNSKU (fulfillment network SKU) tells Amazon which seller a specific unit belongs to. You'll find it in Seller Central next to each FBA offer, and you can print the label from there.
It's different from your own SKU and from the product's UPC. For how all these codes fit together, see SKU vs UPC vs ASIN vs FNSKU.
What changed in 2026: the end of commingling
For years, Amazon let some sellers ship products "stickerless" using the manufacturer's barcode, and units from different sellers could be mixed together ("commingled"). Amazon announced that commingling would end for inventory shipped on or after March 31, 2026. As reported from Amazon's announcement:
- Resellers who aren't the brand's representative in Brand Registry generally need to label units with an Amazon barcode (FNSKU), even if the product has a UPC.
- Brand representatives can still use the scannable manufacturer barcode on their own products.
- Products without a scannable manufacturer barcode need an Amazon barcode either way.
- Eligibility is decided per offer, so one account can have both kinds.
Reports also say Amazon ended its own paid prep and labeling service in the US, so you'll need to label units yourself or use a prep center.
A labeling workflow that doesn't slow you down
- Batch by product. Group identical units before you start, so you print one run of labels per FNSKU.
- Print on the right stock. Amazon supports specific label sizes; many sellers use 30-up sheets or a thermal printer. Check Amazon's current size list.
- Cover the old barcode. Place the FNSKU label over any existing scannable barcode so only one can be read.
- Test-scan one label from each run.
- Record the shipment in your own system by SKU, with quantity and date, so your counts stay right while inventory is at Amazon.
Keep your own SKU
Use your own SKU as the merchant SKU when you create the offer. Then your Amazon reports line up with your spreadsheet and your other channels. Our SKU builder helps you keep the format consistent.

What is an FNSKU?
A fulfillment network SKU: a barcode Amazon assigns to identify your specific units inside its fulfillment centers. It usually starts with X00.
Can resellers still use the manufacturer barcode for FBA?
Under the 2026 change described by Amazon and widely reported by sellers, units shipped by sellers who aren't the brand's representative generally need Amazon barcodes. Brand representatives with scannable manufacturer barcodes can still use them. Check Seller Central for the rule that applies to each offer.
Where does the FNSKU label go?
Over any existing scannable barcode on the unit, so the old barcode can't be scanned. Amazon's help pages explain label size and placement requirements.
